This Will be Our Year

I randomly came across this song when I was browsing through Hi Fi weddings (have you heard of them? It’s a really great site. But more on that later.) This Will Be Our Year, by the Zombies is an oldie, and one of those songs that immediately felt familiar. Like I’ve heard it a million times before and didn’t know it. I can’t listen to it without getting weepy — which probably also has to do with the endearing old Super 8 family movies this version accompanies. But the lyrics just really speak to me. They’re simple and sweet and uplifting. I thought it could definitely be a first dance song contender. (It’s also short, which is a good thing, as neither one of us is crazy about a million eyes staring at us dancing.)

In the end we ended up deciding on another song for the first dance, but I really wanted this song to be worked in somewhere. So we eventually decided that this one would be perfect for the ceremony recessional. We’ve only really picked out a handful of songs for our music so far, but every little detail is making this whole thing feel more real and more complete. July can’t come soon enough!

That is so funny, as I think this is going to be our recessional too. It is such a perfect song. Great choice!

When my friends Dave and Casey got married “This WIll Be Our Year” was their first song, too. It’s pretty perfect. Well, if you aren’t into Peter Gabriel, that is… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zrzr4R3LpsQ
